Job shadowing in Finland
Name of the activity and short description
SEEDS Job shadowing in Finland for the means of gathering and exchanging good practices concerning social entrepreneurship. The job shadower comes from Peru, which is one of the nine participating countries in the SEEDS-project, and visits six different NGO’s working with social economy in a time span of ten days, including trips. The aim for the job shadowing is documentation and discussion about how the NGO’s function and sustain themselves.
How did you prepare the activity?
The members of the board in Saga Finland agreed that one member will be in charge of making a primary schedule that will then be discussed and modified according to what the board sees as appropriate. All NGO’s visited during the job shadowing were contacted in advance and the members of the board were able to accommodate the job shadower in their homes, as well as in rental cottages.
Good practices or learning points
The main frames of the schedule was handed to the participant beforehand, which meant that the job shadower could anticipate where and with whom she was going to stay. Free-time is necessary.
All NGO’s were happy to cooperate and enough time was planned for each visit.
More information should have been handed to the job shadower more in advance and also all the different goals for the job shadowing should have been discussed more.
Impact of the job shadowing on our organization?
Saga Finland has learned more about the practices of other NGO’s both in Finland and in Peru and has also reached out to new audiences both face to face and via social media.
How will you transfer the skills developed through the JS?
Other participants in the SEEDS-project have already been provided with guidelines for the job shadowing and information from the job shadowing is also shared on Facebook. The job shadower makes a presentation that will also be visible in social media and the website of the project.
