SEEDS Workshop in Amyntaio, Greece
On Thursday, April 21st, 2016 the Greek Association of Active Youths of Florina (OENEF) arranged an open local event on Social Entrepreneurship as part of SEEDS project. Konstantinos Stergiou, SEEDS project manager, together with Christos Moglenidis, OENEF member, were the organizers of the event, which was implemented in the Greek language since all the participants were Greeks.
The event was promoted through local blogs, websites and Facebook pages. There were 8 participants, including the deputy mayor of the municipality of Amyntaio. Some of them had already thoughts of creating a social enterprise and they were seeking information about moving forward to their next step.
The event lasted for almost 3 hours with presentations, informative discussion between the participants on how to create a social enterprise, how to organize it and the national legislation that is applicable in Greece. Some good practices and examples of other social enterprises that can be followed and ways of financing the whole project from external sources were also discussed.
In the practical part, from the tools of SEEDS project we used the “Method for understanding the importance of a business plan“ where participants got presented a story of an NGO creating a social business, where they received some of the details and discussed in groups of 3 to fill in the blanks. The most interesting part was that none of the participants had ever experienced a Non Formal Education process, which made the event inspiring and quite interesting for them.
Another method used, was the simplified “Method for a Business Plan”. In this case the participants seemed to be more experienced since they are very close at creating their one social business so we just applied the method on their needs. Participants discussed about desires and needs of the local community, and how their potential social business can meet them.
